Amber Ruffin, comedian and TV writer (Image: File)
Amber Ruffin has joined the Jimmy Fallon’s “Late Night” writing room recently, becoming the first black female writer —or any female of color— to join the staff, according to reports.
This is an almost astonishing development in the more than seven decades of late-night talk shows in television history.
This also comes after news of Sasheer Zamata joining the cast of Saturday Night Live mid-season and becoming the first black woman since Maya Rudolph left the show in 2007. Ruffin was reportedly part of SNL’s “secret” black women-only auditions. An experienced comedian and actress, she’s an alumnus of Chicago’s iO Theater and a former performer at Second City comedy club.
